Maximum Time per Hole
Each hole has a maximum time allowed for completion, based on its length and difficulty. The maximum time allocated for each hole is stated on the scorecard or communicated through any other official means, including digital platforms.
The maximum time allowed for a standard round corresponds to the sum of the maximum times allocated for each hole played.
Out of Position
The first group to start is considered out of position when it exceeds the total maximum time allowed for the holes completed.
Any subsequent group is considered out of position when it exceeds the cumulative maximum time allowed for the holes completed and the time gap to the group in front exceeds the starting interval.
Procedure When a Group Is Out of Position
A group that is out of position may be approached by a referee and required to regain position. If deemed necessary, the referee may time individual players. If timing is applied, players will be informed accordingly.
The maximum time allowed for a player to execute a stroke is 40 seconds.
An additional 10 seconds is allowed for the first player to play in the following situations:
- Tee shot on a par 3;
- Approach shot to the green;
- A putt.
The timing starts when the player reaches their ball, it is their turn to play, and they are able to play without distraction.
The maximum time includes distance assessment, walking to the ball, and pre-shot routine.
On the putting green, timing starts after the player has had reasonable time to lift, clean and replace the ball, repair pitch marks, and remove loose impediments from their line of play. Time spent reading the line is included in the time allowed for the stroke.
Individual Timing Without Prior Warning
A referee may time a player individually even if their group is not out of position.
